CATERHAM’S RAUCOUS SEVEN 620R CONQUERED ALL COMERS IN THE RACE CARS FOR THE ROAD CATEGORY AT LAST WEEKEND’S GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED
30.06.2016.- The pinnacle of Caterham’s range of iconic Sevens blasted up the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood hillclimb in a best time of 61.76s, beating six other lightweight, track-inspired sportscars that included the Zenos E10R, BAC Mono and Lotus 3-11.
Overall, the ballistic 620R, piloted by Caterham development driver Jon Barnes, finished third of all supercars that assaulted Lord March’s driveway over the weekend and was the fastest non-4WD car to take to the hill.
The car’s outlandish performance was even more impressive because its fastest time was set in tricky, drying track conditions, while many supercars on later runs had a drier road.
Barnes was stoical about his performance, saying: “Truth be told, my driving was a bit pants over the bottom part of the hillclimb, so I was really angry and just ragged it over the top half.”
The Caterham Seven 620R features a supercharged, 2-litre Ford Duratec engine which produces a mighty 310bhp and vast amounts of torque. Not for the faint-hearted or easily worried, the car sits atop Caterham’s range of five Seven models and is the fastest production Seven ever built.
