JEC Meeting 28th April 2013

  • JAGUARS – PUDDLES AND PUSSY CATS
  • THE JAGUAR ENTHUSIASTS´ CLUB IN SPAIN HAS NOW BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR 2 YEARS

April 29, 2013.- The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club in Spain has now been in existence for 2 years, in that time we have been really fortunate with the weather, on Sunday 28th April, our luck ran out, apart from a few minutes here and there it pretty well rained all day long. Wet weather and classic cars normally spell disaster as owners do not want to take their cherished automobiles out in the rain. However, we Jaguar owners are made of “better stuff” and despite the weather the turn out for this meeting of the Big Cats was still impressive. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that attended the meeting, especially all the new members. I have to admit, the weather did stop a few members and some came in their “normal day” cars but we still had 42 people for lunch.

This time the meeting was at a new location, Restaurant La Herradura in Los Montesinos, an old converted Finca with “oodles” of history. Great parking and a beautiful terrace, great if it had not been persistently precipitating. Lunch was extremely good for the measly 20 Euro’s charged. Fabulous home made bread with tomato and aioli, a choice of starters, then a choice of Paella, Chicken, Loin of Pork or Fish, I had the Paella, just delicious, dessert and coffee and all the water and wine you could drink. By the time we had imbibed a few glasses of the beautiful vino, it did not matter that it was raining.

David Shea and his fabulous gold XJS Convertible was awarded the prize for the “ladies choice” and one of our regulars and great supporters Stig Moltu-Jacobson and his immaculate blue S Type won the longest journey prize. Some of the old favourites were there as usual, but one that was really worth a note, an immaculate steel blue Jaguar Sovereign Long Wheel Base saloon with 210,000 miles on the clock, and still running as sweet as a nut. More examples of XJS’s, XK8’s,  XJ’s, X Types, a new XF and of course “The Guvnors” XK8 Convertible. completed the collection this time.

We had planned a demonstration from Diamond Bright but the weather put an end to that, maybe next time. Lunch over and announcements made, it was time for the obligatory group photo, at least the rain did stop long enough for that. A great meeting despite the elements trying to put a “dampener” on proceedings. People started to depart just after 4:30pm. The location and date of the next meeting is yet to be decided.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club is the largest of the worlds Jaguar Clubs, apart from joining in the fun at the meetings, members also benefit from a glossy 132 page A4 monthly magazine, Jaguar spares department and a technical advice service second to none. If you live in Spain and own a Jaguar you should be a member of The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club.
