MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF THE SPANISH SECTION OF THE RREC TRAVELLED TO CORDOBA TO ENJOY A MOST SPLENDID EXCURSION
8.11.2017.- The long weekend from 12th to 15th October during which Spain celebrates its national Day, members and friends of the Spanish Section of the RREC travelled to Cordoba to enjoy a most splendid excursion organized by our friend and club member, Agustín Pastor.
We began on the evening of the 12th, and with our cars securely parked in the large garage of the Hotel Las Adelfas, our base for the next three days. The event commenced with a reception and briefing given by Agustin, in which he explained the details of the visits and arrangements that this excursion entailed. We proceeded to enjoy a delicious dinner in the restaurant “La Taberna de Almodovar” located in the city centre retiring early as we had an early start the next morning for Baena.
The journey to Baena occurred without any incidents and we enjoyed the unrivalled landscape of the olive groves extending into the horizon. Once in Baena we parked the cars in the picturesque courtyard of the Nuñez de Prado oil mill from where we continued on foot to visit the Castle and Archaeological Museum. Returning to the mill we enjoyed an excellent lunch followed by a visit to the mills installations and saw other stages of the process of transforming olives into olive oil.
Once back in Cordoba, the day concluded with a delicious dinner “al fresco” on the terrace of the Parador de la Arruzafa, with beautiful views of the city and with a delightful temperature that made it difficult to end such discussions as to whether the Derby are proper Bentleys, on a few tables, or whether the six inline cylinders were superior in all respects to the aluminium V8, at other tables.
The intense Saturday 14th began with a visit to the spectacular Castle of Almodovar, followed by lunch in a restaurant next to it. We then returned to Cordoba in the afternoon to visit the Mosque and the Jewish Quarter. For those of us who did not know it, the Castle was impressive, but revisiting the Mosque once again, confirmed its unique character for its significance and impressive state of conservation. We dined in the renowned restaurant “El Churrasco” with great atmosphere and even better cuisine.
On Sunday morning after breakfast and after thanking the organizer for his efforts and congratulating him on the success of the excursion, we returned to our points of origin with temperatures of up to 340C, unusual for this time of year but which were appreciated by all.
