  • ON THE THIRD WEEKEND OF MAY, THE SPANISH SECTION OF THE RREC ORGANISED AN EXCURSION TO THE PROVINCE OF TERUEL
  • PARTICIPANTS FROM MADRID, CORDOBA AND ALICANTE ATTENDED, WITH THE USUAL VARIETY OF CARS,
  • MODELS AND YEARS OF MANUFACTURE

12.6.2017.- The route from the starting point, on the outskirts of Madrid, to the capital of Teruel, crossing most of the province of Cuenca, offers spectacular scenery at this time of year that, together with the classic road, made the journey almost unnoticeable, tempting some participants to return to Madrid again to repeat the journey before dinner!

Our collaborators from Classics on the Road welcomed us at the Hotel Botanicos de Teruel which was our base during the weekend, and offered detailed information about the visits to be made, in addition to distributing a detailed route book.

The cars were perfectly parked in the hotel garage which had been reserved exclusively for the RREC. After a delicious and generous dinner in a restaurant in the city centre we began to discover some of the many tourist attractions Teruel offers a city with elaborate lighting, founded in the 10th century and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Early on Saturday morning we departed for Albarracín, driving through twisting roads with beautiful, wild and natural surroundings during 50 km roads. The spectacular sun and pleasant temperature created an intense blue sky that accompanied us for the remainder of the day.

Albarracín is a walled city founded in the tenth century, catalogued as “The most beautiful town in Spain” and where a remarkable local tour guide showed us all that three cultures have been accumulating there over the centuries. In every aspect a most interesting visit.

15 Kms outside of Albarracín, and in a picturesque setting, there is a renowned and distinguished restaurant with a well-deserved Michelin star, El Batan, where our friends from CoR had reserved a table for us. All participants unanimously agreeing that it was Excellent.

The return to Teruel was made via another route of superior beauty allowing for sufficient time to rest at the hotel before the farewell dinner in another typical restaurant.

We still had time to visit the city in daylight on Sunday morning, and again a very competent tour guide helped us to understand the secrets of the World Capital, the Mudéjar Architecture, as Teruel is known.

At midday we started our journey back to our points of origin, which was done without any incidents. There were no mechanical incidents during the entire journey, which made it unnecessary to request the assistance of Royal Crown Motors whom once again accompanied us on this occasion.
