- LAMBORGHINI PRESIDENT AND CEO HONORED BY ITALIAN AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
- STEPHAN WINKELMANN PRESENTED WITH THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP AWARD AT IACC’S 105TH ANNIVERSARY GALA DINNER
Chicago, Illinois/Sant’Agata Bolognese, September 26th, 2012. On Monday, September 24 at Chicago’s River East Art Center, the Global Leadership Award was given to Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann by the Italian American Chamber of Commerce. This honor highlighted his contributions to US and international advancements of Italian culture by leading Lamborghini, the venerable Italian super sports car brand.
“It’s such an honor to accept this prestigious award from the IACC”, said Winkelmann. “This award confirms Lamborghini as a strong expression of the Italian industrial culture as it is closing in on its 50th Anniversary. We have a commitment – myself with the support of my team – to continuously develop world-class luxury super sports cars like our flagship Aventador and keep on investing in new products and technologies even in hard times. The challenges of the automotive business require determination and long term planning.”
Winkelmann, who was born in Berlin and grew up in Rome, has been President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A since 2005. Throughout his seven years at Lamborghini, Winkelmann has been instrumental in the turnaround of the brand including all-time record sales in 2008 prior to successfully steering the company through the economic downturn. Also in 2010, he was decorated as a Grand Officer in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, recognizing Winkelmann’s commitment of re-launching the Lamborghini brand and making it one of the most highly esteemed turn-around programs in the automotive and luxury sectors.
These commercial achievements were a result of Winkelmann’s focus on supporting and growing the dealer network, implementing a solid strategy for its V10 and V12 sports car range, leading the development and launch of the flagship Aventador LP 700-4 while investing in new facilities to explore sustainability avenues as well as produce full carbon fiber monocoques, for better performing vehicles.
The IACC’s 105th Anniversary Gala & Awards Dinner also presented awards to local business leaders and hosted more than 400 professionals, government officials, and VIPs stretching from the Midwest to Italy. The event’s proceeds were donated to the Cook Italy Educational Foundation, which is focused on teaching underprivileged children based in Chicago how to eat healthy; and to a fund to help rebuild the Emilia-Romagna region, which was recently hit by a series of devastating earthquakes.
